Top: H&M, Mom Jeans: River Island, Trainers: Vans |
I used to think autumn/winter style was the one; now, the more I think about it, I really am a summer person. I love the liberties that come with warmer weather: not having to layer up, being able to just wear a simple dress and trainers, thin tops and skirts, all of it really. As cliché and cheesy as it sounds, everything just feels a lot easier when the weather's nice. I think a lot of this derives from the fact that I've generally become much more of a dress and skirt-oriented person as opposed to jeans and trousers.
Recently, I've definitely started to become much more experimental with colour (I feel like I've said this in every style post, but I actually, truly mean it this time!). I've discovered colours like lilac and green, colours I never thought I'd be wearing. Hence, when I discovered this top on H&M, I thought I'd give it a try. In all honesty I liked the style so much, I went and bought it in a different colour (I think I have a bit of a problem when it comes to this, to be honest). And, in-keeping with the lilac theme, I also discovered this lilac knitted top, a bit different for me in terms of the material, but still a completely flattering shape and neckline.
This also leads me onto my next obsession. I'm not sure of the correct term for this style, but I am LOVING tops with big sleeves and square necks. What. A. Style. I've found this style to be the most flattering for my body shape and am loving the way statement sleeves completely change up an outfit. I was looking for an emergency top to go with some jeans for a party recently and came across this top from Boohoo. I'm totally in love with the mesh, patterned sleeves on this top, making it perfect for those occasions when you want to dress up a bit more than usual, but don't quite know the dress code and don't want to look overdressed (trust me, I find myself in this predicament a lot). Funnily enough, this feeds into my next discussion point: organza. Organza is one of those fabrics that I always associated with prom dresses, formalwear etc. but, since it's become a thing again, I've realised just how versatile the style is, especially when used in dresses and shirts.
I think I must be alone when I say that, before recently, I couldn't remember the last time I owned a pair of joggers. In fact, I feel a bit stupid just writing it. But, with the prospect of spending a lot more time at home over the next few months, I decided to just get on it and buy a pair. So, they came the other day, and I instantly realised what all the hype was about. Oh my God, they're comfortable, and such a change from leggings. I bought them in a cream shade (risky, I know), but I'm truly in love, and completely late to the game! If there's one thing you take away from this post - get yourself a pair of joggers.
